Steven BeschlossIt's hard to overstate how much abuse I've been bombarded with on the bird app since Musk took it over with plenty of his MAGA acolytes engaging in ugly attacks and calling it "free speech." Meanwhile, Apple threatens to drop Musk's platform of abuse and he complains that they don't believe in "free speech." Sound familiar?

Jami@StevenBeschloss how many times do we need to explain that the right to free speech refers to the freedoms from government limitations on speech. It does not mean the right to a megaphone to amplify any ugly thoughts or idea… it has nothing to do with guaranteed access to privately owned business services.

the shibboleth of ‘free speech’ is just one more means by which this agenda is pursued, and it is always so blatantly obvious in the material result of any ‘free speech’ agenda being implemented.

@batyalee 🌿@StevenBeschloss It's hard to overstate how significant it would be for famous people (like you) to drop Twitter and delete your account(s). Quitting the addictive Twitter habit is unsettling for sure, but I promise you'll get used to it. Encourage your associates to drop the bird too. If it improves in the future, you can always make a new account.

L4UREN@batyalee @StevenBeschloss I’ve successfully replaced my Twitter addiction with a Mastodon one! Never looked back. It takes a little while to rebuild your feed, and to get used to the lesser intensity, but I love it here.

Htaggert@StevenBeschloss so, curious- what is the value in remaining there? I’ve got 2 ppl who refuse to move and I’m trying to figure out if they just are comfortable with that BS or don’t care. Even for folx with huge followings - I’m seeing very low engagement, as a lot of those followers left or stopped using the ap.

I had no choice but to lock my account. Twitter has become a haven for Nazis, racists, misogynists, Jew haters, & anti-public health extremists. Very disturbing. But I am glad to have found you on this site.

I’ve been thinking all along that Musk's scheme is to become the next Trump. But it will only work if people and news orgs repeat and obsess on everything he says, as with Trump. Twitter alone is nothing but an echo chamber for fascists.
