@Bronwen I unfortunately regularly fail to get to the books I want to read, but I think I can still put together a list for #7books

- The Lord of the Rings #Tolkien
- Innumeracy #Paulos
- A Demon Haunted World #Sagan
- The Messenger #Zusak
- Beauty #McKinley
- Don't Make Me Think #Krug
- Lost at Sea #OMalley

@ellesaurus @Bronwen I've read 4 of those! Don't see McKinley mentioned much these days, let alone Beauty!
@mindstalk
@Bronwen Oh cool! I wasn't expecting anyone to really know that one. It was the first McKinley book I read and it was easily my favorite telling of the story.

@ellesaurus @Bronwen It's even my favorite _Robin McKinley_ telling of the story. Though to be fair, I never tried re-reading Rose Daughter.

But I'm slightly unusual. https://mindstalk.net/mckinley/

@mindstalk @Bronwen Wow superfan! I completely forgot about Rose Daughter. I never ended up reading that one. The other McKinley novels I've read are Hero and the Crown, Blue Sword, and Spindle's End.

@ellesaurus @Bronwen I recommend to you Sunshine, and her short story collections.

My favorite novels were Beauty, Hero, and Sunshine. Blue Sword was somehow the most forgettable book I ever read, I literally forgot about it twice. "I'm having deja vu about having deja vu."

Oh, I'd liked Outlaws back in the day, too. "Robin Hood worries about privies and wonders why people want to live like hobos with him when they aren't actual outlaws yet."

@Bronwen @mindstalk @ellesaurus I love Robin McKinley’s books, esp. Sunshine. Sharon Shinn is like McKinley in some ways. Shinn’s trilogy that starts with The Safe-Keeper’s Secret and the book Summers at Castle Auburn are most like. Shinn’s series that starts with Troubled Waters has the same feel but in a more complex society.
