TIL Hive and Post don't have public web interfaces? C'mon folks, why are you even considering them. Twitter was a website. That was a big part of the point. https://mastodon.social/@jwz/109417952642149234
@seldo somebody shared a public post on Post with me the other day. It was ungated. Worked fine.
@seldo just found out post also lists net-worth as protected so you can’t clown billionaires 💀
@seldo Instagram was like that for a long time, too. I’m not even sure when they added a web interface but it’s much better with it.
@jgleman I only started to use Instagram when it got a website.

@seldo It was SOOO accessible!

I always assumed the 140 char tweet limit and 15 char handle limit was to work with the 160 limit on SMS!
RT + formatting took the other 5.

Twitter via SMS was how I learned Muammar Gaddafi was killed.

I remember tweeting in school by texting to 40404!

Twitter was great for slow speeds too, it was the only app/site that would work in overloaded stadiums or on road trips through places with bad connections.

Twitter didn't do much, but it did it perfectly.

@seldo I only used Twitter via the web interface, so my ad-blocker had a chance to intervene. On the occasion when that wasn't available, it was a miserable experience in comparison.
@seldo I’ve never downloaded a social media app. It’s all just websites for me.

@seldo Post has a web interface. See for example https://post.news/article/2I8KY7PphGpEorYcxGJsSdGuWlC#conversation; click around if you want to see profiles and their posts.

The jwz blog post is saying don’t use Post because of a16z and the focus on micropayments. JWZ could also note that Post uses OpenWeb and that Scott Galloway is an investor in OpenWeb and Post. There are more than enough reasons for me to not want to try Post.

Why are we not working on... / Post.

@seldo I'm sure there's probably a few legitimate reasons why you might need to go "app only" in 2022 when the line between web app and native app becomes increasingly blurry, but blogging is not one of those reasons.
