Here's a Mastodon #etiquette thing I don't know the answer to:

I would like to keep my own feed free of un-CW content that I would CW myself. But right now if I read an interesting post that doesn't have a CW I feel that I can't boost it so I just don't share it.

What do others do in this situation?

@quinnmx I have noticed people putting a CW on replies, which I thought was odd because if someone has opened the first post then they probably intend to bypass a warning for that content. However, maybe the intention is to warn people that might see the reply first. I guess you could propagate the post by replying to it, and put a CW on your reply.

@quinnmx one thing I don't really understand here is the star button. I've seen posts with many reblogs and no likes/stars. Maybe it doesn't have a network effect like it does in Twitter so no-one uses it?

@rich Yeah - I've seen posts reminding people that just because it doesn't influence an algorithm doesn't mean you shouldn't press it to show the poster you like their work! I think also you have to look on the post's server to see all the stars - on yours you only see the stars from your server. I think!

@rich @quinnmx I've done that when I'm uneasy aabout someone's content & when I don't know if my reply is a bit ranty.
