Two of my favourite #genealogy resources are Maps and Google Earth Pro. When you overlay an historical map over Google Earth’s current imagery you can better understand how places have changed. #Maps #Geneadons #LocalHistory #GoogleEarthPro
@sharnwhite I have done the same a few years ago. Even been trying to create an app for the phone for this. Then you could literally walk in your ancestors footsteps.
Found out that there used to be a little road going through our living room... For some reason my wife didn't like that very much. #maps #OldMaps #genealogy #research
@NakedGenealogy @sharnwhite There is an app called English Places by Victoria County History It uses 6 inch to the mile maps as an overlay over Google maps. Here I’m sitting at the kitchen table. Useful for a perambulation around a #OnePlaceStudy

@philswallow @sharnwhite @NakedGenealogy I believe so, although I have not tried it. Having something on a phone is good for looking at boundaries and how property was divided in a #OnePlaceStudy. Also the app has fewer annoying symbols advertising establishments. Somebody put a pub & Google restaurant symbol on a building that lost it’s licence in 1908.
