Colnbrook One-Place Study Website is Up and working well. See www.colnbrook-ops.co.uk. All I have to do is add more stories and information.
This weekend’s research in Colnbrook #OnePlaceStudy involves the Guy family who appear to be Quakers in the 1680s as the wife was in their burial ground in Longford. But at least one son lapsed as he was church warden in Colnbrook by 1710. They were tallow chandlers but could also be dealing in corn. There is a good inventory for the house, but I cannot plot its position. Very frustrating.
#familyhistory research has taken a darker twist this #Halloween as I read the report by Rev T Hayton titled “Concerning the opening of the Dormer Family Vault in 1860” I didn’t know it was in a vicar’s job description to go in and inspect the residents. Hope I don’t loose any sleep tonight.
A day late, but I’m at someone’s #OnePlaceStudy to take a look at the church #wing.
No fewer than nine Wing residents gave evidence in a case of letters being stolen for their stamps. As conflicting evidence as to times were given, the accused was ultimately given the benefit of the doubt by the court. #1873OPS

It's slow progress when researching family history, especially when it's from the second world war, especially especially when it involves a country which no longer exists (Yugoslavia), especially especially especially when your relative never spoke of their time during WW2 and died a while ago.

But I keep pushing on because this feels like the most important thing I've ever done ✊

George Thompson, his wife, and his apprentice…

What started as a simple look at the life of George Thompson turned into something a little more complicated…. George was born in 1817 at Long Buckby Wharf, son of Hannah Bird and Samuel Thom…

A lecture on “Poverty: Its Cause and Cure” was given to 350 men this week. The rate of pauperism by county is directly linked to labourer wages, and temperance was also encouraged. #1873OPS
After searching unsuccessfully for the birth of a 9th g grandmother in Nottinghamshire it occurred to me that perhaps she had married previous and then remarried my ancestor under her married name of Frances Lambley. Searching the Parish Register for the same town I discovered a marriage of Thomas Lambley and Frances Hinde. Thomas Lambley died the year before Frances married my ancestor Charles Harper. What was amazing was the the two marriages were on the SAME page of the register! #genealogy
I'm in that #Genealogy phase where I've just put together a groundbreaking theory after ranting to a friend about random ancestors and now I just need ALL the records RIGHT NOW to prove if it's true or false. I think I've pieced together information that even the 19th Century antiquarians were confused by. And if I'm correct it solves some major questions about my #OnePlaceStudy and my #OneNameStudy. Very excited. Genealogy is great fun.
