I think a primary point of value I provide my employer is the following:

Manager: "any DB experience?"

Me: "willing to try."

Manager: "cool I'll pull your tickets off you and we'll talk next week."

I'm very willing to try new things if given the time/resources.

(BIG NOTE: this does not mean to never say no to keep your own workflow sane)

@chrisabides The ability to be constantly learning new things is the majority of why I went into tech honestly. It blows my mind when people just leave college and actively refuse to learn a single new thing ever again because they only want to do what's familiar.

(I mean it's totally ok to live like that if that's how you like to live, so more power to them—it's just that it's personally incomprehensible to me)
