Today on Black Friday is the perfect day to sue the state over its insufficient climate policies.

So that’s what we did.

See you in court!

@gretathunberg Suing the state needs also suing individuals!
@dandelionhub @gretathunberg i dont think thats how it works. I mean there is no single individual in state responsible for this since its the parliament passing laws in most countries. And passing the blame onto individuals is the BP narative which is not very helpfull in tackling climate, as people who dont feel guilty poluting like BP will get away with others being distracted by their individual polution.
@gingerale @gretathunberg Citizens putting their state on trial and punishing the state with fines, which are ultimately their own taxes, leaves the rewards for political parties and individual politicians to commit these crimes intact, which is also the reasons for problems on the system level.
@gingerale @gretathunberg For example, a politician breaking the law to funnel public tax money to one's own party or voting district and judges punishing the party will not remove the incentive for the individual politician because he still may elected and fines are often so little that the party or district still benefits.
@gingerale @gretathunberg The parliamentarians in most countries are not independent but dependend on their party, which depends on the government. Any parliamentarian expecting to have a career has to follow the party whip. Legal and executive branch are only separate in theory but not in practice.
@gingerale @gretathunberg So the responsibility comes down to the government and the head of government.

@gingerale @gretathunberg Eco Lawyer Stephen Donziger confirms my argument to prosecute individuals. Check this out:

@gingerale Donziger: "So basically, if you look at the whole panoply of the law, human rights law, environmental law, it has a big gaping hole that an ecocide law would, in my opinion, fill, which is it doesn't really hold the individuals who make the decisions to pollute, like the oil company executives, and a case I've worked on for many years, the Chevron executives, they're not held accountable, they're not indicted...."
