Wondering if anyone has coined the term, Birdchan, yet for the future of Twitter? It slipped out in a conversation yesterday with some university comms folks who are trying to figure out what their social media strategies should be going forward.
@katestarbird FWIW, i've heard $8chan

@lahosken @katestarbird ohh that's what that means

I saw it but was confusing it for some weird way of referring to 8chan/8kun

I guess for the confusability reason I think birdchan is better

@lahosken
Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.
@katestarbird
@katestarbird birdchan is very good, captures so much of the tone of what's happening. What if future social media embraced federated University models, where our researchers, alumni, athletics etc. could all flock together while also participating in other social communities?
@drdonnakidwell @katestarbird I've seen people say this wouldn't work for government accounts to make them accessible to the people like they were on Twitter, but why couldn't it have its own server(s). Am I missing something?
@AnnRichards @katestarbird seems like it might work really well, especially if you could affiliate with an institution more akin to an 'appointment'.
@katestarbird I’ve seen $8chan too, but birdchan is *so* much easier to say πŸ˜„. Sad how incredibly appropriate and accurate it seems to be, though.
@katestarbird Oh that's good! Where that platform is going, I think.
@katestarbird saw one that called it $8 Chan. And lolled pretty hard.
@katestarbird i think if you put TM next to it, it's yours ;)

@JoseMarichal @katestarbird Yeah really. And don't stop there! Copyright it! Patent it! THERE'S MONEY TO BE MADE HERE!!!!

Oh wait, was your point something else? 😎

@katestarbird not that I know of, but I will credit you every time I use it from now on!

@katestarbird @jeffjarvis yes, considered it, because it’s the best analogue. At this time, #rubbernecking at #birdapp $8chan has also been used, but following hate sites, it’s either #gabsocial or #4chan. Can’t wait for a manifesto to be posted, with the whole mess that implies.

Good to know I am not original though

@katestarbird ... it's depressingly perfect for where the current ownership is taking things. Oof.
@katestarbird I haven't heard that one yet, but I did hear it referred to as $8chan.
@katestarbird Like others have mentioned, I think $8chan fits nice. Birdchan is pretty good, too, imo.
@katestarbird Learned two slangs today. πŸ˜‚ I like birdchan too. The other one looks awkward? But I can adapt.
@katestarbird I've seen $8Chan used for where Twitter is going.
@katestarbird I’ve been calling it MySpaceX and OnlyKlans.
@katestarbird somebody mentioned "$8chan" here the other day, which seems quite appropriate.
@katestarbird in British English Twatter works as twat is a gender neutral term for a dolt or idiot. But we’re in a minority so birdchan or $8chan will have to do.
