Here's a screenshot of #K9Mail's current message view. And two more showing what the NEW message design will look like! 👀

We've added some comments in the margins explaining some of the new features and UI elements.

Thunderbird for Android is taking shape, and it should be here before Thunderbird Supernova releases next summer!

(Note: This is by no means final, still a lot of polish and work to do)

@thunderbird Is that native PGP support? The same for the desktop app?

@reboot46 Right now, K-9 utilizes OpenKeychain. (more info: https://docs.k9mail.app/en/current/security/pgp/)

However, our plan is to included native OpenPGP functionality at some point, but not right away.

Keep an eye on our roadmap: https://developer.thunderbird.net/planning/android-roadmap

PGP - K-9 Mail

@thunderbird
The OpenKeychain GitHub states:
"WARNING: This software is no longer actively developed."
They haven't published any new version or security fixes at least since May 2021, and had no changes in the repo since August 2021. Why would any non-technical person use software this old? It is not maintained for almost a year and a half.
It seems to me like a potential major attack vector.
@reboot46 I'm not sure how useful it is to talk about non-technical people when it comes to using email encryption. It's still not something the average person could easily do.
@cketti I'm not a technical person, I don't know how to read source code. So I can't tell if a program has vulnerabilities or not.
And I find it really easy to use PGP with Thunderbird, and OpenKeychain with K9Mail in the past.
There's no way I'm gonna use software that is not getting updated for a full year or more (proprietary or FOSS).

@reboot46 Understood. But there's not a lot we can do about that right now.

The plan is to include OpenPGP functionality eventually. But there are a lot of other issues we consider more important. So it'll be a while before we get to that.
