Pretty sure Jysk are breaking the law here:

We brought exactly this garden set from them this summer for the discounted price of 5k SEK (normally 11500 SEK) - they are now advertising at 11500 SEK claiming it is reduced from 16999 SEK.

This is not ok. This is arguably #fraud

I am not an expert on consumer law but I do dabble and I am pretty sure that EU law requires that Sales prices are only valid if they are lower than the usual price over the previous 6 months (maybe I am wrong @beuc ?).

Simply making up a new higher price to make it look like the new price is a sale price when actually it is exactly the same as the price they have been selling it for previously would (iirc) make this a breach of EU consumer protection law.

I believe that in some Member States this is actually a criminal offense under the EU Directive on Unfair Commercial Practices
@ThatPrivacyGuy I hope you're not suggesting that #BlackFriday is a scam... πŸ™Š

@goochjs No I am claiming that this particular situation is a scam and probably illegal :)

The 1500 Euros I saved on my Odyssey Neo G9 display for #BlackFriday was definitely not a scam :)

@ThatPrivacyGuy In the UK that would be illegal. To show a reduction from an amount they have to prove what dates it was sold at that amount (iirc has to be sold at the higher price for 30days) undiscounted.
@AlisonW yeah that was my understanding (the period of normal price varies across the EU afair - but it must have been actually sold at the higher price for the sale price to be considered as a sale price).
@ThatPrivacyGuy inflation this year has been rampant thought?
@Prometheus not that rampant and not here
