Mastodon audiences vs Twitter audiences in a nutshell.

My audience is mostly from the Asian continent (primarily India) on Twitter. On Mastodon, it's dominated by the Western world in comparison.

This is the main reason why I currently don't feel comfortable leaving Twitter entirely - it effectively abandons half of the world's population.

@szhang_ds if I may ask a question: why did you lump Oceania with Europe/North America?

@arnaud

because I could only have four poll options to encompass the entire world, and people generally consider Australia/NZ (most of Oceania) to be "Western"

""Asian continent (primarily India) "
I can assure you, a majority of them will be from the BJP IT cell - the IT cell of the current ruling government in India. And of course, the media houses that support/bolster the BJP and their followers and so on and so forth.

@NorthEastOne

I find it doubtful that the BJP IT cells would send its people to follow and support me when I spend much of my time re India speaking out against them.

@szhang_ds I guess Mastodon has been suspended by Europe to against Twitter.
@szhang_ds
Interesting. Why would that be? Why aren't the other audiences coming over?

@szhang_ds Yes, this. Although EM is clearly dismissive of the global user base, this is the most important thing at risk.

See also the stories about China shutting down local use related to protests, and you can see that #Twitter is not going to be a viable option for that half of the world for much longer.
