Now, this isn’t generally the case on mastodon/the fediverse, but the queer history of the fediverse hasn’t stopped racists or norms of whiteness from taking up shop and organizing the space. A queer history didn’t keep racist slurs out of my mentions.
To be clear, I’m not denying the queer history of the fediverse: I’m rejecting its use as a counter-argument against structures of oppression on the fediverse. I’m also rejecting the immediate assumption that queerness = anti-racist.
Please, fellow white folks interacting with BIPOC folks. Listen; don't debate, don't give advice or make recommendations to unless it's explicitly asked for.
Our goal should be to learn how we can make things better. Here, on fedi, as well as the real world. That starts with listening.

Mastodon audiences vs Twitter audiences in a nutshell.
My audience is mostly from the Asian continent (primarily India) on Twitter. On Mastodon, it's dominated by the Western world in comparison.
This is the main reason why I currently don't feel comfortable leaving Twitter entirely - it effectively abandons half of the world's population.
