Hi Mastodon! I’m going to be posting a lot with #BigBake2022 tagged. Let me explain.
I used to bake for coworkers at the holidays, and I’d take one weekend to bake hundreds of cookies for them, and everyone would get a box.
Then I decided to really challenge myself in 2019 Could I do 20 different types of cookies in one weekend? The answer, as it turned out, was “yes”.
Then COVID happened. And the demand on food banks was high, and many of my coworkers had moved to different places in the province/country, and I couldn’t easily distribute cookies to them. So I teamed up with a local food bank and people could order a box in exchange for a donation to the food bank. I did it again in 2021, with almost 50 boxes ordered!
But 2022 has been complicated, and with my father’s #cancer diagnosis, I couldn’t promise anything in terms of timelines, so I opted to not make it a fundraiser, and instead give them out to my friends and neighbours and coworkers!
Anyway, lots of Facebook friends got into following this adventure, so I’ve tagged each year with a different hashtag. So this year, #BigBake2022 is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of December 10th, but I’ll likely get started earlier in the week! For now, freezing dough and cutout cookies is keeping me busy.

To put things in perspective, my current list has more than 30 goodies, and more than 50 boxes to give, and including all the smaller cookies (spritz! Shortbread! Bars!), my spreadsheet estimates that I’ll be making about 4000 cookies that weekend (pretty on par with last year).
