For the film (however bad) Damnation Alley, directed by Jack Smight, was reually built a similar vehicle, the Landmaster.

But the most monstrous real vehicles used in a sci-fi film that I know are quarry trucks turned into assault vehicles in the film Soldier directed by Paul W. S. Anderson
