🔥 Super difficult question : What is your favorite #NeilGaiman’s book ?

I think my personal favorite is #Neverwhere . Read it years and years and years ago. Still in awe . Incredible world building. Incredible story. Incredible characters.

@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon "The Ocean at the End of the Lane". "American Gods" is a close second. His book on Norse mythology is also an excellent red, particularly if you are interested in polytheistic mythology.
@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself American Gods full stop. With Sandman coming in a close second.
@neilhimself @bookstodon @ablueboxfullofbooks American Gods has gotten me through some rough times, it’s like a best friend at this point
@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon difficult question indeed, but probably Stardust

@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon Fave #NeilGaiman book would have to be Good Omens. The tv series are probably also the best ‘adaptation of a book’ I’ve seen.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane is probably my second fave.

@ablueboxfullofbooks 100% #Neverwhere. It's the one I keep coming back to in all its forms. I used to teach it in a unit on fairy tales and popular culture. And I've always wanted to teach it paired with Wizard of Oz.

Coraline might be a close second for me. "Something very old and very slow" is such a perfect description of eldritch evil.

@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon TBH I've interacted with Gaiman's work more through his audiobooks! I LOVED his version of Neverwhere, and how he drew listeners in to the story. Loved his American Gods and Ocean at the End of the Lane and have utterly adored the radio play Sandmans. Only seen Good Omens....but my fave that I've actually *read* would have to be Stardust.
@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon Difficult question, depends on my mood but I've read American Gods the most (both read and listened). Good Omens is brilliant. I also enjoyed Norse Mythology.
@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon I really loved Neverwhere, but I’ve probably read Good Omens the most times. I read it at least yearly, and I’ve had multiple copies ❤️
@amandagray @ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon For me, it will always be The Ocean at the End of the Lane. It touched my heart.
@amandagray @bookstodon @neilhimself @kimlockhartga @ablueboxfullofbooks - one of my favorites is The Graveyard Book - I love that story!!!
@kcrouth @kimlockhartga @ablueboxfullofbooks @bookstodon @neilhimself that’s also a favorite - my son and I read that together when he was young!
@amandagray
I think Neverwhere is my favorite because it was my introduction to Gaiman. I love the fuzzy quality reality has in his writing.
@kcrouth @kimlockhartga @ablueboxfullofbooks @bookstodon @neilhimself
@jameswynn @amandagray @kimlockhartga @ablueboxfullofbooks @bookstodon @neilhimself - i recently picked up a copy of the graphic novel version of Neverwhere at the local library book sale - should i read the novel first?
@jameswynn @kcrouth @kimlockhartga @bookstodon @neilhimself @ablueboxfullofbooks I haven’t read the graphic novel, but I don’t see why you can’t start with that!

my first Gaiman was in:
The Matrix Comics Vol 1 by Geof Darrow
They are all quite good, but by far the best is an essay story entitled Goliath by Neil Gaiman, which is in my view was the best. Awesome storytelling, you can read it here:

@kimlockhartga @amandagray @ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon Ocean at the End of the Lane, is magically enthralling. But, for me it's The Graveyard Book, that books takes me apart and puts me back together better than I was before everytime I read it.
@kimlockhartga I agree. Ocean is very touching a pretty straightforward story but with many layers. It was my first Gaiman. American Gods is very different but also thoroughly enjoyable, almost a take on Tolstoy's War and Peace 😎 @amandagray @ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon
@larsibacken Oh, I loved American Gods, too.
@kimlockhartga Did you watch the Hulu adaption?
@larsibacken I did not. Was it good?
@kimlockhartga No idea :) The book was enough; didn't want to spoil my experience.
@larsibacken Yeah. Some things aren't translatable.

@kimlockhartga

Exactly.
The other way around is often more enjoyable, reading the book *after* you watched an adaption. You get all the parts they couldn't translate or chose not to.

@amandagray Haven't read (yet) but I do love books with long titles. 🤗 What do you like most about Good Omens? @ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon
@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon definitely a difficult question! I loved Good Omens, but also Anansi Boys and The Graveyard Book
@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon Anansi Boys or The Graveyard Book. The Ocean at the End of the Lane gave me the creeps!

@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @KarenFT @bookstodon

Anansi Boys, no question!

I remember reading standard Anansi stories as a kid, and that brought it all back.

Never got any creeps from Ocean, but did enjoy it.

@donaghy @ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon Ocean gave me creeps because there was a part where a worm invaded the kids foot or something....there were other parts too but I can't remember specifics now. I still shudder when I hear the title though, lol!
@ablueboxfullofbooks American Gods will always have a special place in my heart for keeping me company while I was studying abroad, but my favorite is probably Good Omens.
@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon The Sandman series, followed by American Gods. If asked to choose a third, I'd say The Ocean at the End of the Lane.
@ablueboxfullofbooks @neilhimself @bookstodon I loved Neverwhere so much I bought myself a first print, first edition, thus (1997 Avon). When pushed to name a single book to call my favorite, it is Neverwhere. I'm waiting patiently for @neilhimself to complete the sequel - The Seven Sisters 🥰 I also bought a signed first ed. of Ocean At The End Of The Lane, and replaced my worn out paperback copies of American Gods & Anansi Boys with a single leather bound, gilt edged duology. I'm kind of a fan😁
