also, one other thing. Not having algorithms means also that you don`t have to watch follower numbers that much. Most people report a way higher rate of reactions to their posts in relations to their follower count.
Just live your life, post, engage, discuss.
and one last hint: use hashtags.
Mastodon works differently than #twitter in that regard, where hashtags were eventually declared superfluous. Here they are still used to let you decide if you want your post to be found or not.
