Did you know that to be considered wealthy in #Ancient #Rome, you had to have a minimum of 1500 roof tiles?

That sort of knowledge is what I can offer you, dear Mastodon world.

Pleased to me you!

@mythologyandhistory really? Source? Because I need to vet to convince my kid getting her masters in Latin

@tfiglio
SPQR by Mary Beard, page 436!

Good luck with your Latin intervention ;)

@mythologyandhistory not too much of an intervention. I’m proud of the kid. She knew what she wanted and she’s gone after it with style.
@mythologyandhistory plus I get to pluck random Latin out of books and Roman Empire stories to text her and low key say “I love you and have been thinking about you.”
@mythologyandhistory That is the kind of thing post that gets an instant follow!
@mythologyandhistory I live in Rome and have a decent number of roof tiles. In another time I may have been considered rather well off! Unfortunately not in the present time!

@Dawnalba

Your bio tells me you are a Brit in Italy - imagine that in Roman times!

Do you enjoy Rome?

@mythologyandhistory There’s good and bad, like everywhere I guess. I actually live just outside Rome. It’s amazing to live so close to an open-air museum, but on the other hand, that causes its own problems such as roadworks taking FOREVER as virtually anywhere they dig round here they find something of archaeological interest!
@mythologyandhistory There is so much art and history to visit. I enjoy just ambling around with an ice cream, though I must admit that for most of my walks, rather than heading into Rome, I go to woods or smaller places for some peace!

@Dawnalba

That makes a lot of sense honestly. I'm a "displaced" European too, and I end up primarily in green spaces as well.

Any good Rome photos? You should post them :)

@mythologyandhistory Most photos are with my family but I'll post something interesting in a bit 🙂
@mythologyandhistory Participating in a roof tile project I am interested in a source for this statement. Thx!
