May I make a suggestion? It can feel weird here at first. I think if you have just joined, engage with those you follow. You will be seen and will get involved in the conversation. Remember to not just like toots, but to also boost. I have tried to follow back everyone that has followed me.

Please follow new accounts, don’t leave them lonely. We want them all to stay so we should be supporting everyone making the leap from Twitter to Mastodon. It’s logical 🖖

@SpockResists I tooted the other day, in fact, that I'm having a blast being the very first follower of new accounts.

The only time I hesitate is when they have no posts at all and/or no bio explaining what they're about.

@GottaLaff Yes I have seen that today. I am a lot of peoples “first follow.” I followed all back. I can always unfollow if they turn out to be not nice. 🖖🖖😀

@SpockResists Absolutely agree Spock! The only issue is that there’s a limit on the amount of people you can follow back within a certain time. After that, you get an error message. Just have to follow back ‘slowly’. I haven’t figured out what that limit is yet, but I’ve hit it a few times now. 😬 If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks.

@SpockResists Can I ask a question? Why in my feed, does it list every post those I follow have posted one after the other...? Like I follow a few who have tweeted or posted 5 things today and they are listed one after the other. It is kind of annoying.... is there a way to just see more activity from people in general?

In your feed you will see those you follow - in the Local Timeline feed you will see everyone on your server - in the federated timeline you will see all the fediverse (except those your server may have blocked)

@Southern7 @SpockResists Your home feed only includes the people you're following, the things they 'toot,' and the toots they boost. The local timeline shows everything from your instance/server, while the federated timeline shows everything across the Fediverse that's visible to your instance.

@Southern7 @SpockResists you have several choices of what to display. Local gives ask the people on your particular server. Federated gives all the posts everywhere and I recently learned you can go into Preferences and choose to show that feed down so it’s not too overwhelming. There are no algorithms choosing what you’ll see—so everyone’s voices are there.
