@nixCraft I would say not necessarily, it could also be a single computer named www in the /etc/hosts. I remember when Mosaic came out, the math department had such a setup.

@nixCraft Tru, I was so confused once when a website had www2. as a subdomain (I think it was HP). I thought it was a new technology or something.
