@scottjshapiro Well, at the moment, post.news is a version of bluecheck twitter where the un-checked don't even get to watch. (I'm 80k back in a queue that doesn't seem to be moving at all, and from reports, they seem unlikely to be ready for that many users for a while. Which does make me wonder why they're promoting it so heavily...)

@scottjshapiro I'm certainly not finding post.news appealing- yet, and I hope I'm wrong. Because so far it's being rolled out with little to no actual info (privacy policies, TOS, etc) and is chock full of advertising gimmicks. Limited numbers, get in line, advertise for us and get bumped up the queue, info grab, etc. and I've yet to see anyone who is not a legacy blue check say that they are on it- which means the queue isn't really a queue. knows. But who knows- I like the innovation

@scottjshapiro This is the first I've heard of post .news, I see they're going for "micropayments for newspaper articles" as their business model, I'm sure they will be more successful than the last 1,000 startups to have that idea

@scottjshapiro post.news would make more sense if it became a Mastodon instance which only accepts “notable” people like Blue Check Twitter people. It could charge those people a nominal amount to provide high quality service that doesn’t break all the time.

@scottjshapiro please don't call anything related to Mastodon "$something Twitter". Mastodon and the Fediverse have been around for a long time now and have been geeky as hell for almost all of that (and were proud of it too!)

@scottjshapiro - If Post News is giving priority access to big name Twitterfolk, and rewarding recruiters, I understand that as a business decision. But I am tired of business decisions driving what I see, from whom and when. Mastodon is what you make it. That works for me.

@scottjshapiro Truth Social failed so miserably, it's obvious to me that Musk bought Twitter as a gift to TFG, to give him a platform of (diminishing) consequence from which to broadcast a message of White Nationalism and hate. @scottjshapiro It's so weird you should say that Scott because my twitter feed is more leftist than my Mastodon feed, which runs pretty neolib-apologist hipster academic. Mastodon isn't twitter and it's not "like twitter"--it is a different space entirely.

@scottjshapiro Twitter *was* geek Twitter at the start, when it launched at SXSW to an audience of web developers who were, largely, the first wave of users.
