New features in #MastodonV4 include API calls to interface with the reporting system; this could be a false positive on any of the buzzwords in that post. Even so, it exposes just how poorly that instance is moderated

☝️ so this is tragic enough to be funny, except it's not.

New mod messes up.

IMO this is still a case against big instances, though, and still evidence of BAD moderation.

@nikodemus I am honestly glad I joined the .art server, I was on .social for a hot minute, then saw that there was an art specific server and promptly switched there (just in time before the REALLY big numbers were starting to come in and joining had to be reduced). I love the moderation there, it feels very safe and wholesome. Not sure I would feel the same way if I had stayed on .social. Hope they get their shit together eventually.

@nikodemus I'm new to Mastodon (Oct 27 I think) but I would've considered a CW on that post myself after having read all the guidance I've gotten here.

But I think the solution is for also _those_ mastodon servers to stop trying to take on everybody. I see in the Twitter thread many who don't understand that there's no "Mastodon" deciding this. I'm sure there are many instances who would be happy to have Tracy Chou - she's awesome.

@nikodemus Do we even _have_ to discuss this? This is indeed not OK, and only strengthens the case of defederating this instance.
Putting the comfort of privileged people over the safety of marginalized people is never OK -- there is no such thing as "reverse racism".

@heinragas When I said "discuss" I was thinking along the lines of "coordinating joint defederation" and "making .social and .online users aware of what's going on" 😂

@nikodemus There's a reason lots of other instances are blocking m.s and m.o. Eugen is a very problematic individual with a very inconsistent moderation history.

I feel bad for new users who are caught unaware, but the best lesson you can learn early is to leave m.s and m.o for smaller, more moderated server ASAP.
