I slept great after deleting my Twitter account last night.

Something you should know…

Twitter's very existence depends on mDAU. This data—licensed to business, governments and anyone interested in purchasing it—is counting on people using Twitter daily.

There is no “stay and fight.” This is a fallacy. Staying literally lines the pockets of the (now) alt-right twitter.

The more interactions and likes and account has, the more personal information you inadvertently generate.

Not a big account? The app tracks you even when closed. You’re still contributing to its existence.

Tell your friends. Treat twitter like a Simpson’s Halloween episode. Want to kill the monster? Delete the app. “Just don’t look”
@flexghost Issue hereis that bad actors can pick up your handle. An alternative is to delete all tweets and lock. No bad flexghost then.
@IceNine lol. You mean no good flexghost? The imposter would need to be an opposite.
@flexghost well I never thought of that. Bit like someone wanting to impersonate a tractor with bugger all followers I guess. Main reason I even keep mine is to grab Mastodon handles as they come up and add them here.
@IceNine there are a ton of apps to discover people on mastodon you had on Twitter. Literally, no reason to keep your Twitter.
@flexghost I would do except there's a couple of people who use no other communication that I know of.
@flexghost Oh and I just remembered, there's one dumb right-winger who posts there with his cooker views and racist opinions, then wonders why businesses he doxxes and complains about suddenly stop interacting with him. Including an entire supermarket chain which had trespassed him and he was trying to negotiate access to again. Oopsi.
@IceNine @flexghost just delete your posts and DMs. Put up a profile with your Mastodon handle so people can find you here. Lock the door, and turn the lights out
@flexghost I like Kathy Griffin's approach
@flexghost yup, deleted the app yesterday. The Simpsons Halloween monster analogy is apt, ad delivery platforms desperately want our time and attention. No more.
@flexghost
What happens if I delete the app but don’t deactivate my account?
@GlennaMaev if you never go back you won’t contribute but your info, location and password are obtainable by nefarious choices
@flexghost
Ok, thanks! I certainly don't plan on going back, but I also want to think over how to handle my data for a bit before wiping it clean.

@GlennaMaev @flexghost

You can download your archive.

Then if you deactivate and reactivate your account, everything is gone. When you leave that idle, it prevents the handle from getting snagged by an impersonator while denying Twitter all of you precious data.
