@taylorlorenz do you have any idea get my listing updated to my new instance? Have reached out to @DataDrivenMD to no avail (yet).
@rmayemsinger @taylorlorenz I've just updated it. If it changes again, just DM me. Once the dust settles on Election Day, I'll automate the process so that the verification follows redirects automatically.
@DataDrivenMD Thanks for all your hard work!
@DataDrivenMD @rmayemsinger @taylorlorenz Do you mind adding me to it?
@parker @rmayemsinger @taylorlorenz Just added you. Sorry for the delay. My notifications are delayed by exactly 48min :shrug:
@DataDrivenMD <knock> <knock> I'd be honored to be on your list.
@DataDrivenMD Thank you!
@jeffjarvis my pleasure. thank you for helping to point folks in the right direction. knowing who to trust on here is particularly important today
@DataDrivenMD Hi - can you please add me to the list as well, once the dust settles? Am @cardamomaddict on Twitter: (https://twitter.com/cardamomaddict) Thank you :)

@cardamomaddict All set! Please let me know if you encounter any problems
@DataDrivenMD @rmayemsinger @taylorlorenz This is a great resource! It might help to also point people to how to set up “link verification”: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/profile/#verification
Setting up your profile - Mastodon documentation

Get started with your new account.

@LiberalArtist @rmayemsinger @taylorlorenz This functions as link verification as well, this just makes the process as turnkey and frictionless as possible. No need to buy a domain, figure out how to set up the tags correctly, maintain the server, etc.
@DataDrivenMD once today is done, would you mind adding me?
@DataDrivenMD thanks for adding me when you get a chance.
@taylorlorenz when I try to click through from the mastodon handles to follow the people it doesn’t work and prompts me to migrate my account (?!) but if I just go back to the main Mastodon instance and search the names I can easily follow them. One solution: make this an exportable CSV file that I could then import and follow many of them with a couple of clicks. Any more detailed guidance as to how to use this list efficiently without having to click many times for each name?
@HelloAndrew That's a Mastodon thing, you can't easily one click follow unless you're on the same instance. Easiest method I've found is to copy their full username and server, then paste that into your search box on your own instance. It's clunky but it works.
@torgospizza that’s what I’ve been doing but it’s incredibly time consuming. I wish someone would make a CSV file out of this it would be so much easier to import that. In any case thanks for your reply!
It doesn’t help that my iPad is on low battery and if you’re plugged into power then typing on an iPad becomes almost impossible.
@torgospizza @HelloAndrew when I click Follow on a profile on another server I'm prompted to enter my username@server and it redirects me, have done this a couple times and it seems to work well but might depend on the server
@garethwilliams @torgospizza @HelloAndrew it's the general design, but it's really painfully tedious for most people which is why the ask if for CSV that one can use to mass import. (The idea that humans would want CSV is amazingly bizarre–as a developer adjacent person at a company that deals with CSV files.)
@HelloAndrew @taylorlorenz if these are all account you already follow on twitter, you can try a tool called debirdify: https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/ which allows you to automatically find available mastodon equivalents of accounts you follow on twitter and export them as a CSV. I hope this is helpful!
Debirdify

This is a web app that helps you find out which of the people you follow on Twitter are on Mastodon/in the Fediverse already and follow all of them easily.

@HelloAndrew @taylorlorenz It requires you to authorize it to access you twitter account, so be mindful of the possible security risks. Here’s a toot by the creator of debirdify, Manuel Eberl, introducing the tool: https://graz.social/@pruvisto/109257404426481007
Manuel Eberl (@[email protected])

Okay, I hacked something together that tries to figure out if the people you (or somebody else) follows on Twitter have Mastodon account. Here it is: https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/ Very experimental. Not sure if I will keep it online forever. I'll put it on Github as well some time soon I think.

@taylorlorenz giving me an access denied message.

@taylorlorenz This is sorta funny tho, right? Like, we're all moving to this different platform and have these various hand written lists to go through manually to...preserve the popularity and status quo of the one we're moving away from?

I sorta figure if the account is so notable, it'll end up in front of me over here too, and I won't have to spend hours manually pouring through these sorts of lists.

@taylorlorenz

Brent Toderian is on Mastodon.
@BrentToderian

If you’re into urbanism, urban design, infrastructure, (public) transport, cycling, etc, he’s a good one to follow.

@taylorlorenz oh this is useful! Already had to report one person that was pretedning to be a legit journalist.
@taylorlorenz I'm hurt I'm not on it. I am not worthy.
@jeffjarvis @taylorlorenz If he compiles the list based on what he knows, and the person who registers, it's certain that our name doesn't necessarily exist
@taylorlorenz thank you for this list!
@taylorlorenz found quite a few old friends on the list you tooted. Thanks for doing that!
@taylorlorenz Thank you for putting this together. A+++. So useful!
@taylorlorenz so the old verification still works. Just not on Twitter.

@taylorlorenz thank you for this very easily reformatted blocklist! it's awesome when people help out like this!!
@taylorlorenz thank you for that Fedified list! I want to start re-building my list but don't know who is legit yet.
@creek indeed, I have even said myself sometimes that I am Too Legit to Quit. [not just legit, but also old lol! ]
@taylorlorenz THANK YOU!!!!! Hard to recreate 14yrs of follows

@taylorlorenz this already exists for years

@downey @taylorlorenz And yet they’re different enough to both be useful in their own ways 😉

@benserviss @taylorlorenz

Yes, happy to have a blocklist of entitled clout chasers. 😆

@downey @taylorlorenz Reading the following hurts a bit: "You must write mostly in English. At least half the posts on your profile must be in English. The posts on your profile include the posts you boost."
English is very natural to me and sometimes I don't even recognize whether I'm communicating in German or English. On Twitter I followed Israeli people writing in Hebrew and Japanese people writing Kanji/Kana. The language wasn't a problem.
@brar There are multiple versions based on language; scroll down a bit more and you'll find the links.
@downey yeah, I saw that. Thanks!
I'm rather referring to the problem that I feel somewhat guilty over here, that I'm spamming people's timelines with a language they don't understand while not being able to follow people who's language I don't understand.
I loved the translate feature and I hope at some point it will work like this over here too.
