A gentle reminder to folks who are new to Mastodon. In solidarity with those in the disabled community who rely on screen readers, we ask that you:

* Add alt text/image descriptions when you post media
* Capitalize the first letter of every word in a hashtag #LikeThis
* Avoid emojis in your display name

@josh I was looking for some simple accessibility tools within the app - I cannot find a text size option at all is there a way to do so? iOS mobile app. Also the handles are dynamic font size so longer names look like a little fuzz - no way to enlarge them.

The only way I can find to enlarge text size is with the general phone settings. Any suggestions welcome! #FediTips #Accessibility

How to change your iPhone’s text size for a specific app

In iOS 15, you can adjust the text size separately for each of your apps. So you can, for example, keep the text small for your email, but make it a bit larger in Twitter — or vice versa.

@jkohlmann @josh first of all I never knew huh could do that!! Thank you. The one thing it doesn’t enlarge is your mastodon address though. 😄

@lizzy @josh Agh, so much for that! Each app makes different choices about how to implement typography, so it’s hard to say what exactly can be done on a per-app basis upfront 😣

For what it’s worth, Metatext appears to change the size of all text in the timeline view when changing the system font size via the previously specified method.

Also, the app tooot (which I enjoy, but cannot speak to its overall accessibility and screen reader support) has a separate, in-app text size setting.

@jkohlmann @josh I’ll try those out.

I just wish I could see everyone’s server on my cell 🤣🤣🤣 but for now it’s all good.
