I'm moving to @wzuidema. Hopefully the migration will go as smoothly as promised.
@wzuidema @wzuidema What made you decide to move? My current server is a bit too opinionated (for my personal taste) about what I'm allowed to see, and I'm looking for alternatives.
@wzuidema @wzuidema Btw, I'm already seeing your new address, so it seems to have worked :)

@tmalsburg Three reasons: (1) the local time on sigmoid is more interesting for me, (2) the server seems to be faster (I already experienced it on @AmsterdamNLP), and (3) I was warned that many smaller instances block or will block mastodon.social.

(I am also not so happy with these walls between mastodon instances, but am aware that others might have very different experiences on social media than I have and don't have strong opinions about their necessity).

@wzuidema Thank you. I suspect that some amount of separation between servers may be necessary. There are some pretty horrible instances out there. However, the amount of moderation needs to be negotiated and each server/community will come to a different conclusion. I see this as a clear strength compared to twitter which has shown (IMO) that a one-size-fits-all solution doesn't work. In the end this also adds an element of within-ecosystem competition, which will help Mastodon to evolve.
@wzuidema @wzuidema Worked (both follow you and you follow me), just on Sigmoid instance I don't see the profile pic. Maybe that's intended, just letting you know.
@josipk Thanks! I have added a new bio and profile pic now.
@wzuidema All good now! Happy to see that you moved successfully, as I consider doing the same next weekend. Could you share what recipe you followed?

@josipk I followed this recipe:
https://mastodon.social/@Gargron/103393780267601137

with the new account in a private tab, and the old account active in a regular Firefox tab. It took some time for almost all my followers to be migrated. I saved my follows to csv on the old account, and uploaded them manually on the new account.
