@designerscott Some general ideas, but I'm mostly just enjoying it / along for the ride! I'd love if they were going after Sam, but that doesn't seem to be the direction they're going in.
@devanofnine I have a long and convoluted theory that explains why they are indeed going to end up connecting with Sam, if you wanna hear it...

@devanofnine ok, here we go...
In the original show , the first season aired in 1989, however it was SET in 1994, making the show 5 years ahead of the viewers. The new show is airing in 2022, and set in 2022, but is it? What if Sam's present is still 5 years ahead of us, and the events of the show we are watching are actually 5 years in the past, as far as Sam is concerned?
2027 Sam has been continuing to leap all this time, and has, for the last five years been aware of the new project. 1/
@devanofnine Since the end of the old show Al managed to stay in touch with Sam, even after the end of the old project, and at some point brough Janis in on things, this is how Sam knows of the new project.
At some point between 2022 and 2027 Something Bad happens (clearly Addison gets caught up in it), and it is something SO bad that Sam either chooses to, or gets chosen to, go back to 2022 to set that something right. He shares all of this with Janis and Ben 2/
@devanofnine It's this information that causes Janis and Ben to work on getting Ben to the Something Bad (which is in their future). The plan is that Ben will get to a certain point in the near-ish future to help Sam prevent the Something Bad.
What about Leaper X? Leaper X is clearly from some time around when things Go Bad, and is the back up plan for when shit hit the fan. Ben's not following him, he's following Ben, and he's trying to warn Ben away for his own good, not threaten him. 3/
@devanofnine Trying to catch up to Sam explains why Ben has had so many leaps that that parallel, or connect to leaps Sam went through. He's attempting to synch up with Sam, and that will make it easier to hit that same point in the future where Sam is.
Since Ben had to leap by a certain time, that means that time had to be the beginning of the Something Bad, maybe Addison leaping is the event that kicks it off!
Janis clearly knows all of this, and is working to help Ben through it.
