"We all do better when fewer Americans feel so helpless and insecure that they’re drawn to reprehensible bullies who parade across the public stage as if possessing admirable qualities."

Trump and Elon Musk are dangerous narcissists tailored to 2022 America

We’re better off when people like them cannot gain such untrammeled wealth and influence. Our politics is the worst for it

@rbreich Ahoy Dr. Reich!

I’d say Chips Ahoy, but it’s trademarked and the multinational that owns it does $1.2B in Russia, so not such a democratic cookie.

@rbreich "People who have been bullied their whole lives want to identify with super bullies who give the finger to the establishment, answerable to only their own ravenous egos."

Except many (most?) of the followers of both of them are comfortably middle class. I understand the bullied-like-bullies dynamic, but there's more there there. White entitlement?

@rbreich if more people understood Psychology and the value of good therapy, our society would be helping such people instead of taking orders from them.
@rbreich accumulating that kind of wealth really is a lack of evolution or at least enough of it in their family gene pool. The lizard part of our brain tells us to accumulate resources and the message is "more, more, more". But just like food resources rotting, their excess money goes to waste.
@rbreich I'm grateful that intellectuals like Robert Reich possess such admirable qualities of humility and wisdom that they can point out know-it-all elitists for our easy identification.
