With the whole #Twexit, Mastodon's userbase has jumped from about half a million in October to 7 million as of today.

All the admins are working hard to keep the lights on, but many only become aware of the problems when they happen.

Be patient. This will resolve, and the Fediverse will be all the stronger for it.

Meanwhile, if you want to help, head to your instance's /about page, and see if they have a patreon or tip jar.

The "Bio" section is the text block. You can also add up to four name-value pairs in the "Metadata" section. If one of those is a link to a page you have control over, you can get yourself green-checked.

@fordiman or anyone really. I'm using the basic Mastodon phone app and I can't work out how to hand over money to the .Green instance ( my home one) and a couple of others. I don't currently have a Patreon account but I'll get one if that's the best way to do it.

@fordiman @DanieTreg a big thanks to all the #admins - I honestly wouldn’t want to be in their shoes today. Imagine, you watch the news of the billionaire kid messing it up again and you know “oh no, this will be another hit to my instance”.

@fordiman As a newbie here, I have pretty much assumed that any problem I've had that wasn't not yet knowing how Mastodon works, is just Mastodon experiencing a major refugee crisis. Things will settle down.

@fordiman I do hope "tip jars" or something like them--apart from Patreon, which I did not like from experience of it in the past--will arise. If they are secure and easy to use, it seems an obvious thing to create. Unlike Twitter, I feel enthusiasm for making small, regular donations to Mastodon. My guess is that many other people feel the same way.
