I see folks misusing image descriptions to add comments about their pictures instead of describing them.
These descriptions are meant to help visually impaired users who can feel left out without meaningful, short and precise image descriptions!

Let's do a little exercise with this picture:

DON'T: "She's so cute, isn't she?"

DO: "Black cat, leaning on a person's leg, asleep."

@axeleroy I do use image descriptions in the CW section as Alt text so that people know what things are. I also try to be descriptive in the description part itself.

One of my friends here has extreme visual impairment told me that she appreciates me using the CW line as an Alt text description of things. So that's another option.

@axeleroy you're right, but I'd suggest brevity is important for screenreader descriptions, be as succinct as possible.
"Black cat, leaning on a person's leg, asleep."

Better not to say 'picture of… ' as screenreaders announce "image:" before reading the alt-text, so user already knows it's a picture. Sometimes it's useful to say 'photo' or 'line drawing', 'screenshot' etc. if the context is not clear and is necessary.

@xanna Thanks, I'm going to edit my post to include your advice!
@axeleroy oh, you're very welcome! I was so concerned about sounding confrontational or something, but golly this place is so nice and you are nice!
