OK. Here's a question for my fellow #TheologyNerds and #Episcopal brethren. (hold on a minute... Is brethren a gender neutral term? If not, what is the gender neutral term??)
As I am in the first year of #EfM (a four year, layperson theology program) I will eventually be called upon to share a "devotion" at the start of group. I believe my first turn is the first Wednesday in Dec.
So for my question, what are some resources that you would turn to in my situation?
@weareallstardust It's an archaic version of brothers. I use the term siblings instead.
@weareallstardust I like "Bible Women: All their Words and Why they Matter" by Lindsey Hardin Freeman. There's a section for every woman in the Bible who says something, in a standardised format. It's easy to use as a reference book, but you can also just browse through it.

@weareallstardust Love #EfM. What guidelines has the group's mentor given you?

First year is Old Testament study, as I recall. You might check out *anything* by the Rev. Dr. Wilda Gafney. Maybe her books "Womanist Midrash" or "Daughters of Miriam."

PS -- Try "neighbors," as in loving our neighbor as ourselves.

@strawhat neighbors! Brilliant. Yes, the first year is the Old Testament. We are currently in Exodus, so I picked up "Exodus For Normal People" by Pete Enns. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by guidelines?

@weareallstardust -- I just meant simple guidelines like Preferably no longer than X minutes, things like that. Nothing major.

Exodus? Great stuff. The group might ponder Moses' older sister Miriam, her part in the "baby M in the basket" story, and her part in the journey from Egypt.

I like Miriam. Can you tell? All the Marys in the Gospels are named after her -- Mary = Miriam.

@strawhat well, we've finished Exodus. So now it's on to Leviticus and Numbers. Fun stuff. (not really)
