Today's FRIDAY Poll: If you HAD to pick one of these tech billionaires to be UK PM. Which would be your favourite (ie least worst for most)?
Bill Gates
90.8%
Elon Musk
2%
Mark Zuckerberg
1.6%
Jeff Bezos
5.5%
Poll ended at .
@MartinLewis sorry but wall are too awful to choose
@muffin @MartinLewis are you sure compared to our recent actual PMs? 😅
@CraigyD @MartinLewis afraid so. they would be worryingly effective at destroying UK in favour of zillionaires
@MartinLewis without a doubt it's Bill Gates. The only true academic/philanthropist/industrialist on that list. With Warren Buffet as Chancellor
@MartinLewis yikes! No Martin, just no!
@MartinLewis Considering that Rishi Sunak and his wife are worth about 844$ million, we nearly already have one...
@MartinLewis where’s “ none of the above”
@MartinLewis but that's like asking which mouldy lemon of the mouldiest lemons I want in my gin. 🤮
@MartinLewis sorry but I can't pick between them. 😳
@MartinLewis I think you forgot to include the option “none of the above”
@MartinLewis Sadly, none of the above.
@MartinLewis None. Behind every great fortune there is a crime. Or many crimes.
@MartinLewis
Not possible. Too close lunchtime to upset my tum. I’d vote for you though x
@MartinLewis i am afraid none of these could do it. We don’t need entrepreneurs running the country. Very clever people but no common sense
@MartinLewis Interesting turnaround, given how much everyone used to hate Gates back in the day.
@TimWardCam @MartinLewis I was a Gates hater, but in the last 20 years he seems to have realised that money isn't useful when you're dead, and his philanthropy has achieved some genuine wins to the world.
The others ..... not so much.
@michaelfromuk @TimWardCam @MartinLewis
I also think that Gates is in a much more sincere league than the others. He is often blinded by his faith in technology, and has so much power for one man that it results in costly blind spots and side effects for entire populations. But I do think he means well, and he says rather smart things, his gates insider blog is usually good reading. The others, however, are just megalomaniacs, smart but in the worst way.
@TimWardCam @MartinLewis TBF people used to project their hatred of windows onto him. Now he's a clearly separate entity, we've realised he's okay.
@MartinLewis that's a bit "Hobson's Choice" but at least one of those isn't a total lunatic.
@MartinLewis voted Musk because I want the UK to end
@MartinLewis I think Britain’s longest serving benefits claimant would have more ideas on how to fix the problems of real people. In fact if you gave cabinet positions to the next 22 people who signed on the cabinet jobs and allowed them to pick their own underlings backed by the civil service I’d be more convinced the country wasn’t doomed.
@MartinLewis I just used the wrong their immediately saw my error and was able to edit, just another reason I love mastodon
@MartinLewis Its only a small sample, but the difference between the votes for Musk & Zuck on here as compared to Twitter is interesting. I wonder if it is because of their connection to other social media.
@MartinLewis Welcome to Mastadon! Anyone who is interested in science, nature travel and politics feel free to to follow me
@MartinLewis there's something wrong when Gates is the best of the bunch
@MartinLewis Oh please no… I cannot vote in this at all
@MartinLewis Nope, I can't vote for any of these!
@MartinLewis we were discussing who we’d like for PM last night and we chose you, Martin 😊
@MartinLewis I think Bill Gates is the best of a bad bunch. He at least does some good for charities etc. Definitely not Musk, he's destroying twitter, can you imagine him in charge of a country. Zuckerberg could be OK as he does charity work, but he's too tied up with his metaverse. And amazon boss? just no.
@MartinLewis Interesting! It won't let me vote here, because I already voted elsewhere, eg at Twitter!
@MartinLewis all billionaires are evil by default chief
@MartinLewis surprised how many people agree with Bill Gates!
@MartinLewis it’s really difficult. All have major red flags against them for how they have treated employees or competitors. I’d rather go live on a rock than work for anyone of them or have them running my country
@MartinLewis Jeff at 5%. What has he done to deserve that, albeit, slender vote of confidence? I find it odd how Jeffers manages to avoid being painted as badly as other billionaires despite the reality of how he got where he is. Didn't he make £70bn profit during lockdowns? And did anyone create a bizarre conspiracy up about him putting microchips in amazon customers brains?
@MartinLewis Why don't you run for PM? You're infinitely more trusted and respected by the public... 😀
@MartinLewis good god!!! None of them, please
@MartinLewis
How do you know on here if it's a true celeb profile like twitter has the blue tick 🤔
@MartinLewis where is the ‘none of the above’ option?

@MartinLewis
Bill Gates ‘not a c*nt’

Plus he created something in Microsoft that has changed and benefited all our lives. The others ‘meh’…

@MartinLewis None of the above Martin.
@MartinLewis really interesting how the results on this compare to the one running in parallel on Twitter - an insight into the ‘type’ of people making the transition, I guess?

@MartinLewis This definately needs a CW. 😎

>hyperventilating<

@MartinLewis Hate to say it, because I'm no lover of Mickey$oft and their domination of the IT world with second-rate products, but Bill Gates would be by far the least bad.
@MartinLewis Bill Gates at least cares (somewhat?) about the environment. But good grief, what a choice.
@MartinLewis Just cuz you’re an accident of birth or talent doesn’t mean you’re a proper leader. Why not give Chuck 👑 the power to rule rather than reign if you want to totally tank the UK 🇬🇧 #brexit was the dumbest self inflicted blow I’ve seen. Should Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 gain independence & Ireland 🇮🇪 be reunited that will be good. Not sure how Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 will fare, but wish them well.
@MartinLewis I'd rather share a kangaroo anus with Matt Hancock than be ruled by any of them.
@MartinLewis Nope - none of the above. There are no circumstances where a tech billionaire is an appropriate national leader.
@MartinLewis least terrible billionaire? Yes, Gates is probably the guy.
@MartinLewis I wouldn't pick any billionaire to run the country, but I picked Bill Gates in your poll since, although his time at Microsoft was morally questionable, he seems to have been doing good things since he retired.
@MartinLewis None of those are truly an option.
