On the Icelandic fediverse/Mastodon I've started seeing people using the word "tútta" for "toot". "tútta" (pronounced toot-ta) is normally a slang term for a boob/tit.

Please reboob this.

Well, this boob blew up...
@esi So just the “masto” part of “mastodon”, then?
@esi Is this a new feature of the Icelandverse?

@esi

Not too(*t) bad as "toot" is equal to "ding" 🥳

@esi "Du ønsker å like denne tuten"

Yes, yes I do like that boob.

@olafurw Wait, "denne tuten"? That's not "this toot", that's "this spout"... 🙈

@olafurw @esi you want to like this "tutten"?

Sorry, learning Norwegian at the moment and I knew the language was similar, I wasn't expecting the exact same 😂

Also, to "toot" in Ireland is to do a bottom burp.

@esi and this is why Mastodon is better than titter.
@esi just keeping abreast of the news from Iceland.

@esi So this is completely in line with the etymology of mastodon, from mastos: tútta (það er fyndið)

(Can you tell me if there are a few # that I could use to find islensku túttur? Please 🥺 ) (I really mean toots 😅 )

@HydrePrever i dont know about hashtags but a lot of us Icelanders hang out at the lodfill.is instance.
@esi thanks for the tip!
@HydrePrever No prob. You are more than welcome to follow my Icelandic account at @esi if interested. :)
@esi "mast" already means boob so i guess it's only fair... :s
@ferrydanini @esi mast in my languange means something else..... not goint to translate. ok. bye.
@ferrydanini Boobodon....g? Sry, my childlike humor couldnt resist.
@esi honestly i think it sounds better lol
@esi thanks for making me laugh out loud in public
@esi seems fitting given mastodon means “boob tooth” (assuming random mastodon copypasta wasn’t lying to me!)
@esi I definitely like boobs!

@esi Clearly, they're talking about birds. Potentially the bearded tit or the long-tailed tits.

@esi I hate to tell them what "toot" means in America. Rhymes with "the magical fruit," etc.
@esi Happy to reboob this cocaine snort (which is toot in English)

@esi it goes wonderfully with the fact that masto-don means « teeth in the shape of boobs ». Reboob this on boobteeth!

@Mgzallp

@esi fits with the masto theme
@esi How would you say “boobtooth” in Icelandic?
@acb @esi Túttutönn, would be one version
@steinloa @acb íslenska mastodon hefði átt að vera túttutönn.is frekar en loðfíll...
@esi Tutta's out for the lads
@esi "Toot" is also slang for "fart" here in the U.S.
@esi hahaha, já! Tútta!!
Verrückte Geschichte (@[email protected])

Attached: 1 image 1806: Der württembergisch-französische Naturforscher Georges Cuvier veröffentlicht einen Aufsatz über das „Mastodon“. Diesen Namen hat er aus den altgriechischen Wörtern für „Brust“ und „Zahn“ zusammengesetzt, weil ihn die Backenzähne des Tieres an eine weibliche Brust erinnern.

@esi This reminds me of how "boba" is slang for "big breasts" in Mandarin so every time you say "boba tea", you're saying "boob tea".

The metal band Mastodon was named after the open source software project, as the singer is a big fan of FOSS and social networks. The software project itself is named after the Greek words, mast (boob) and dont (tooth). So Mastodon means "Boob tooth". This is because the lead dev likes teeth that have boobs.

@esi nice in that "mastodon" is "boob tooth" so they're right on target etymologically.
@esi possibly related, in Russian "toot" sounds like the word for "here", which is not a verb and is pretty impossible to use as one :-)

@esi IIRC they also call cake 'kaka'.

Crap.

@esi thanks for keeping us abreast of the situation 👍😁
