Welcome #TwitterMigration!

First things first, as you acclimate, there are a couple of important points.

1. You'll get the most value in the early days of use by scrolling the Local and Federated timelines, not your Home timeline. That will fill up as you follow accounts and hashtags.

2. The Mastodon app on iOS and Android makes it really difficult to find those other timelines. But there's great news! You have other options! On Android, look for Tusky. On iOS, look for Metatext.

#FediTips

@djwfyi Another tip is that you can browse the local or federated timeline of any Mastodon server by going directly to that server in your browser. If you find people you want to follow, it will prompt you with instructions to do so. I use this method because I run my own single-user instance. My instance now knows about a lot of servers and users so its federated timeline is quite busy
@djwfyi The next step to get more contents of personal interest is to follow #hashtags that meet your own interests. Simply click on a hashtag, see the latest toots referring to it, and if the results are cool, simply click the small follow symbol on the top right corner of the main column. Then you follow the hash tag the same way as you would follow another user.
@djwfyi thank you for the tip on Metatext. This is a nice app!
@djwfyi thank you for point 2. People keep mentioning those timelines and I was like????
@djwfyi wait, you can follow hashtags?
