I have been told that Mastodon needs a better stance for accessibility for disabled folks. I'd love to hear more if you want to share, just a user here but this is something we all need to address.
Accessibility can't and must not stop at alt text on images. Let's figure out what people are missing so we can improve.

@OmegaVoid heard from some friends that creating an account was difficult. I set up a zoom to help demonstrate for some friends how to view server profiles, create an account, create a profile, create an introduction post, and find people and topics to follow. Until there are more and better on-ramps, maybe we can help each other over some of the humps.

@mariaq yes I have been trying to answer questions as best as I can. Also @malwaretech made a nice post about how to move from twitter to mastodon on https://escapingtech.com/tech/guides/a-twitter-users-guide-to-mastodon.html but I can understand that it can be a bit long form for some folks. But a good source of info for those of us helping ppl out.

The ultimate quick start guide. Everything you need to know about Mastodon from someone who just moved.

@OmegaVoid @malwaretech What a great post, I love it!! If I could make a tiny recommendation it would be that under “Instance Themes,” there is some quick reassurance that you are not “walled in” to only seeing posts from the server you’re on — many people think by choosing an instance, they are locked in to only seeing posts about that instance’s interest. Like, being locked into talking about dogs on a dog-themed instance, and not being able to connect and talk about other interests like cats.
@mariaq @malwaretech that is true. The realization that you need to follow interesting ppl in the areas you enjoy to see multiple content types is an important one. We should find a way to make to it easier to step over that barrier. Explore helps a but, but only so much so.
@mariaq @malwaretech tusky seems to do a bit of a better job than the official app for instance. The official app seems to put a lot of ppl off.
