Usually I don't post things older than the late Palaeolithic period, but #insects embedded in amber never cease to amaze me - the sheer age!
This praying #mantis enclosed in amber is some 30 million years old.

@ninawillburger this is fascinating, I read the article. A friend of mine was working some yrs ago in both Novosibirsk and Chelyabinsk - I was gifted amber on a couple of occasions. I’m looking at it with renewed interest. Thank you for sharing

@ninawillburger That is really lovely. Always been fascinated by preying mantis, this year I had a population explosion of them in garden and around house. Had to be careful opening and doors not to hurt them.
