Fun fact: I have a walkthrough metal detector in my house - I hack 'em!

They are vulnerable to interference, forced false positives*, and IR attacks!

What would you do if you could hack one?

*In the model shown, the false positive rate could only be forced to 50% (half of the time) due to manufacturer configurations.

@dnsprincess I hope you're planning to embed that thing in your doorway there. Then hire some massive dude in a puffer jacket and shades to pat down anyone who needs to get to the living room. lol I'd love that. Just to get the obligatory nod as I go through unmolested while my kids have to queue.😂 Your teeth not done your not comin in.
@dnsprincess sure would be fun to set up false positive attacks with a midi controller and get your jam on.
@dnsprincess Good going!!!! Garett is one of the best makes as well, they also do handheld detectors which are used by thousands of security teams as they are very tough and mostly reliable.
@dnsprincess You neeed a handheld metal detector wand thing on a folding next to the door, to complete the aesthetic.

@dnsprincess When Disney World had an incident with some dude trying to bring a gun into Magic Kingdom they rolled out walk-through metal detectors to enter a "security zone" around the parks.

The #WDW Monorail runs through the Contemporary Resort and the detector at that station was located directly below the beam. Every time a monorail train went by they'd have to stop the queue and power cycle the detector because it got so fuzzed up, which I found to be a hilarious bit of security theater.

@dnsprincess Is there something backpack or smaller that can densesitize (cause significant false negatives) from 1m away or so? Also it'd be great to see teardowns and waveforms if nothing else.
@dnsprincess make it randomly rickroll people walking through it instead of playing the boring alarm.
@dnsprincess Does 'IR attack' stand for 'infrared'? Can IR radiation influence a metal detector? 😯
@INCO do you see on the right panel a little rectangle? That's an IR sensor! You can use a flipper on it!
