So I think I just had my first proper #migraine. Been coming on for five days, and then I got the worst headache I’ve ever had on one side of my head. Worse with movement, light sensitive, weird tingling in my face. Thankfully the full-on migraine part has eased off within a few hours, but that’s a first for me and it was grim.

So, I just lay in a dark room and took some ibuprofen lysine, but if anyone has any advice on weathering them, I’d very much appreciate it.

@AnnabelCampbell I find speed is key to mine. The moment I get a warning sign (I start going blind woooo!) I take ibuprofen and go to bed. If I can get to sleep I'm usually out for the worst of it. Carbs are my best friend afterwards. That and sunglasses. Not sure if you had a warning sign, but if you recognise that feeling of it coming on, it probably wouldn't hurt to pop some 'brofen.
@RhiannonAGrist Start going blind? 😱 Thankfully mine wasn’t that intense! But I think warning wise it’s been building for a few days, and I did not in any way listen to my body (classic). Thanks for the advice! Ibuprofen definitely helped! Sorry to hear you have them though :( From my very brief experience, they absolutely suck.
@AnnabelCampbell for treatment I recommend Tesco’s own brand migraine tablets - I’ve found if I take them promptly they see off most common or garden migraines.
All the best, they’re horrid things.
@Lemlems Thank you! This is what I took and I do think it helped a lot. 💚 Sorry to hear you have them, though.

resting in the dark is good. Try migraleve tablets - they're otc & have both painkillers & antinausea, but if you get more migraines, go to the doc to get some triptans as they're the only thing that'll stop an attack.
Other things: get your eyes tested, keep hydrated, cold packs/gels on neck & temples can help, think about cutting out/down red wine & caffeine...

@AnnabelCampbell
.... wear sunglasses esp in the car (low flickery winter sun is The Worst), keep a record of when you get them so you can spot any patterns (hopefully you won't get any more though 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽), and don't expect to bounce back - the post-dromal fatigue is real.

Also, ugh I'm sorry you had one. They suck. 🥺🤗

@raine_clouds @AnnabelCampbell Jumping in to say, Migraleve works for me too, when ibu doesn't do anything.
Coffee and a honey bread (sugar/carbs) help me as well, but for other ppl both are a trigger.
I have an app on my phone with which I track my symptoms and jot down notes about my day in order to identify potential triggers (unfortunately mine are mostly hormone related.)
@AnnabelCampbell @Vinjii yeah coffee is one of those odd ones, isn't it? It can be a trigger, but it can also be part of the pro-dromal adaptive cravings (I crave carbs/sugar).
Confession/disclaimer - I don't take migraleve as I'm on prescription meds but I know it helps a lot of folk which is why I mentioned it.

@raine_clouds @Vinjii Thanks both of you for the great advice, and so sorry it’s something you have to navigate all the time 😔

🤞for a one-off, but when it kicked off I was Googling ‘wtf is this??’ and then realised I knew absolutely nothing about what to do next, while the screen was making me feel like half my head was about to implode.

Thanks for the advice! 💚 Hope you’re both doing okay with them! In my v brief experience, they are awful!

@AnnabelCampbell I'm not sure if sharing external links is a thing here, but I wrote this blog post with lots of tips. https://thecounterfactualbrain.wordpress.com/2022/01/21/help-im-having-a-migraine-attack-a-long-post-with-ideas-for-what-to-try/
