Finally figured out an #introduction

Hi there. "For an Anarchist Radio Relay League" is a zine about ham radio for anarchists. But now we're also an organization seeking to put RF tools and knowledge into the hands and minds of rad people!

Anarchist Radio Relay League | Ham radio for Anarchists

@anarchistrrl just downloaded! How hard is it to get a ham license these days?
@NorCalChar tbh, easier than ever. Hamstudy.org is a really good way to study for the test, and once you get to a level of proficiency (80% passing is a good marker), you can go there and schedule either an in-person or online test.
@anarchistrrl what is the "minimum" radio or SDR setup i would need/want to get started, particularly with the stuff you talk about in your zine?

@NorCalChar depends on what you want to do, and who you want to talk to.

At the bare minimum, an HT like the Baofeng UV-5R, an external antenna, and a programming cable will get you started for local comms. It should go without saying that there are much better radios out there, and they should also be considered.

An SDR dongle like the RTL-SDR is great. You can learn a lot just by listening.

For HF (long distance) comms it gets more complex, nuanced, and more expensive.
