Do you know what Slush is? An annual gathering of 12k curious tech minds in the happiest country to solve global problems. Where founders, investors and media meet for two days in November 17-18.

I have attended 7 times and suggest it to any #techie I meet. A life-changing event for me and the #startup scene in Finland and beyond.

Who is attending this year? Sadly I can't but plan to watch live on slush.org

Well, it seems it was actually the third Slush post ever on mastodon but very early still!

@Setok Yes, living in Helsinki. And outside of Slush is a must for me as I couldn't get a startup ticket this year even as I applied for one.

What are the venues in mind? And the time on friday?

I guess it needs to be after official Slush program has ended so that most people could join. Official afterparty is 6 pm–11 pm. Should it happen at the same time or after that?

@pekkasipila a LOT of people don’t have tickets. Myself included. Side events are increasingly the thing with #slush ticket prices higher. As mentioned, I’d suggest the pub in Tripla. Or alternatively Brokadi authentic Chinese place for dinner. I wouldn’t do too late in the day as people might be tired and also there are many other after parties, so should be before them.

@Setok Oh I see. Do you know any other people yet who could join this gathering? Maybe we should put up a poll to vote on the place here in that case.

For me the Tripla pub sounds better from the two options. Which is the name of it as there are multiple?

Earlier in the day sounds good. Maybe around 6pm then so people have time to get back from work or alternatively just exiting Slush venue?

I'm just working on my master's thesis so timetable is very flexible.

@pekkasipila Bierhaus would be my recommendation. I could imagine even 17:00 might be better than 18:00 (to allow people to then go to dinners etc) but 18:00 is grand for me too.

At least @ymb might be interested (though he hasn’t yet activated on Mastodon).

@Setok @ymb Bierhaus it is then and starting at 17 works well.

Now I wonder that should we apply for the gathering to be listed as a side event of Slush on their page? That way it could be like a conversion event to help people to migrate to mastodon. But then again, the venue might not be big enough for that as we are not reserving the space for ourselves.

@pekkasipila @ymb I don’t think it’s possible to add to the official side event list. A couple of weeks back and sure. We would just need to reach out. And doesn’t just need to be for Slush ppl. Anyone interested to talk about the service.

@Setok @ymb Sounds good. Tripla is a very good place for it because even if we can't all fit in the pub, we can certainly fit in the whole of Tripla.

@Setok I have never been to Slush, I have never been to Assembly, I have never been to Nordic Business Forum. People always ask, but I'm not big on events or meetings.  @pekkasipila

@rolle @pekkasipila none of those matter. I’m not at #Slush myself this year. But this is potentially the first ever #mastodon meetup in #finland.

No worries if you’re not into physical meetups. Just thought to tag as you’re pretty damn active here :)

@Setok Yeah, just had to say it because gathering together around the time of the events is kinda same thing to me  

I never say never but to travel many hours just to meet Internet people, it's a big "if"

Thanks for the ping! Ah slush memories... Attended like 5-6 times at least.

Would love to join the meetup but this is quite short notice. Next week would work :) Also I'll be coming from Tampere.

@cybette @pekkasipila we could also do a more formal 'How to use Mastodon' session some place with more prep, but it'd be nice to ride #slush for our first ever #mastodon #meetup. Even if it's small.

@pekkasipila perhaps a Friday pub meetup at Tripla? Bierhaus or something like that IIRC. Nice place. Around 16:00 or 17:00 could work.
