My face whilst trying to figure out Mastadon.
Tried to upload a photo but that doesn’t seem to work either. Great.
This place makes me feel like an old man that yells at clouds and I’m not technologically inept in the slightest.

@Supertanskiii @Gmlogan Formerly, CW was Content Warning.
Now, Content Wrapping.
Basically puts a 'shade' in front of a post, so that a post doesn't have quite that 'unexpected impact' that some people may not want to see while scrolling thru.
Yeah, I know, here's not like the birdsite!
Jesus, Graham. If you're so bothered, why haven't you used a Content Wrapper on your reply? You're not being particularly helpful.
Tan - Content Wrappers allow posts to be masked with a strap line, requiring a click to view the full post. Some use them religiously, some don't use them at all, and some use them selectively. There are no hard & fast rules, it's personal choice for the most part.
It's a welcoming place here, don't let one bad experience here put you off.
As an aside, you're on the mstdn social server. Code of Conduct can be found here:
I follow you on Twitter and would suggest your posts will breach their "no advocacy" terms.
Might be worth migrating your account to another server that doesn't have these rules. I'm on mas.to and that doesn't have any rules like those on mstdn social. Many others don't either.
Info on migrating your account to another server can be found here:
@remz @Supertanskiii it’s not *needlessly* complicated, it’s decentralised.
The analogy is thrown around a lot but it’s really not much different to how emails work; you have a name at a server/host and people who follow you and people you follow *may* be on different servers.
Is it harder to find people? Yes: it doesn’t have the ability to suggest people to you like Twitter does. But once you follow someone, you’ll see their “toots” in your feed.
@Supertanskiii Part of the problem is that the biggest instances are dealing with a huge influx of users, so things are slow or unstable on those instances. Strongly recommend finding a smaller instance or starting your own at some point. The bigger instances will get better in time, but with 1 million+ new users in just a few days time, it will take them time to scale up.
Moving to my own instance has both improved general functionality and speed, and while it has its own downsides I find being able to control the entire experience really nice.
Using this platform made me realise how I came to accept exposure to cruelty & hostility as part of the deal of being able to talk to you. The clicks algorithm is not necessarily our connection master. How refreshing to be reminded of that.
So glad you're here! One less reason for me to check twitter
Join the club. Do I want to post my avatar on here? Of course. Will it let me, will it buggery.
@Supertanskiii @EmmaKennedy I think the difficulty for many people is that we are all so used to a centralised way of doing social media.
I really hope people stick around and really give Mastodon a good go; It has the potential to become something great.
I do find that using it on a web browser makes it easier to get to grips with.
@Supertanskiii Have you tried hitting the top of the box?
Honestly, chill. About a a quarter of a million of us just gatecrashed some nice peoples party. They've rushed to the offie for us
I use the Tusky app now & it seems a better interface, but there are bound to be bottlenecks at peaks. I've been here two weeks - zero stress, zero barnies, zero racist rants about the RNLI. Bliss.
While waiting, here's an AI bot generated bunny.
