I'm enjoying Mastodon so far, mainly as an observer. Still trying to learn the etiquette, especially with CWs and trying to be respectful of the community that was here before a bunch of us board gamers joined. I think what I love the most about Mastodon is that it feels like SOCIAL media, with actual conversations happening and not just a bunch of copy-and-pasted scheduled posts from the birdsite for our latest content or products. It's refreshing.
@ruelgaviola Yes! I totally agree with you. I've seen a few people referring to it as things like 'community media' rather than social media, which I think is accurate. It feels more like a community encouraging and helping each other. I hope we manage to keep our server that way!

@Nixedpun @ruelgaviola I think it has potential in areas Twitter didn't is refreshing/welcome. Conversely, making sure to be observant of the tech's inherent quirks (no meaningful search?) will take me some time getting accustomed to.

I *hope* this (Mastodon in general) turns out as something other just "second run Twitter." I think it would be sad to find out it doesn't. I'm not sure how I can both get and give value in the short term to help that.

@gpage @Nixedpun I appreciate that you're thinking what you can give! It's a nice change from other social media. Here, we're thinking about the community and the social pact that we agree to when we join. I'm curious to see how Mastodon evolves, but for now it's a space that I want to spend more time in.
