I record a lot of videos and make a lot of content that I think are complete garbage, with mistakes and rabbit holes and wasted time, and I don't think it will be useful for anyone or no one would watch.

But I try to remind myself... doing it in the first place is better than not doing it at all.

@JohnHammond You are one of the best infosec content creaters. Your videos are amazing and your yt channel is gold mine of knowledge. I think what you are saying about bad, full of mistakes, unpublished content is absolutely normal and it's just a hidden, needed background of your greatness. Everyone make mistakes and sink into rabitt holes, it looks like a wasted time but it's not. Thanks to this 'wasted' time your knowledge and content is top notch. Keep up the amazing job and never doubt in yourself because you are amazing human and expert.
@JohnHammond, your content is excellent, and I think it's good to see the process, rabbit holes and all. It makes for interesting and authentic content! I think we can be our own harshest critics. Keep up the excellent work! πŸ‘
@JohnHammond John Hammond is here
Love your videos and even if they would end up in a rabbit hole or complete wrong thought direction would still watch them.
These things are part of the journey too. Don’t want to know how many times I worked on a project in the company only to find out it will not work because of some basic limitation.
Put some kind of upfront warning to the video and yeet it into the world.
We Fans still appreciate all your efforts.
@JohnHammond aren't you just having abit to high demands on yerself?
Afaik you are a goldmine of good stuff πŸ€™
@JohnHammond I love the vids John, and they are most certainly useful
@JohnHammond the thing I like about you getting stuck in rabbit holes though is that it teaches some of the new folks in the field that they are a normal and expected part of what we do. I recently did some challenges with trainees without any prep to demo this exact thing. Losing hours just figuring stuff out is one of the best parts of hacking. Often teaches me 10 things instead of just the one solution.

@JohnHammond Going through rabbit holes is a good lesson to learn, I really like when you put up a note that says "editing John discovered this other thing" and it not only teaches how to solve the challenge/issue, but to get out of rabbit holes!

You're doing amazing job! Keep up the great work!

@LeonVQZ @JohnHammond I second that! It’s important, especially for those new to the industry, to know that everyone goes down rabbit holes from time to time.

As I was learning how to go through JavaScript to ID DOM-XSS, I once spent an entire 1.5 workdays (12hrs) trying to find a way to confirm I had a vulnerablility in a specific script. It would execute and stepping through the code would keep coming back undefined.

It was a heck of a rabbit hole, but once I stepped back out of the rabbit hole, I found three other vulnerabilities that led to a RCE.

I like hearing about the John Hammond that travelled down the wrong path but came back and found it. Do you think there is a process to detect rabbit holes?

@TH3R3P41RM4N @JohnHammond I would be hard to detect, that's why they're rabbit holes. But I believe that if you have spent that much time in only one thing you should think: "let's step back, what do I know, what can I do, have I done this other things" and that's how you get out
@JohnHammond could always make a second channel :) The John Hammond Rabbit Hole Channel!
@cybergingey @JohnHammond actually is a good idea. Longer edits on a secondary channel, more concise versions on the main. Win win πŸ‘Œ
@cybergingey @JohnHammond I would definitely subscribe to that channel. πŸ˜‚
@JohnHammond we love the content, keep it up 😀
@JohnHammond Those of us that are *ahem* less advanced really enjoy watching the experienced people make mistakes and work through them. Helps the learning to see the process, not just the end result.

@JohnHammond Those of us who do these live really struggle with this. It's a delicate balance between showing imperfection and making sure the content is engaging and educational.

You've never been on the wrong end of that ratio.

@JohnHammond in my opinion you’re just doing it for me and I’m still learning the same thing but sort of feel as if it were a team effort at that point so keep up the hard work and amazing content that is doing nothing more than bettering the whole community
@JohnHammond I really appreciate your hard work. Trying your best while recognizing the work may not be perfect sets an excellent example for everyone.
@JohnHammond Make a second channel called Juan Hammock and post all your outtakes there
@JohnHammond doing such things an integral part of making the perfect ones. You learn a lot, and you get some new ideas - to mention only obvious benefits.
In my case, the most hated thing related to the garbage pile is "I had it somewhere..." months or years later.
@JohnHammond, you are the only guy I watch de-obfuscation videos. I watch every video you publish.
