Insulin was invented ~100 years ago, and its patent sold for $1.

“Do you know the reason why [insulin is] $1,000 with insurance?” ~@AoC

There is no reason for insulin to cost $21 in Canada for a 10 ml bottle, while it costs a mortgage payment in the US.

@mackayim2022 @AoC it's mind boggling! I live in Portugal - not a wealthy country. Insulin is one of the free medicines we have (there aren't many) on our public health care service.

Just a quick note

Also, absolutely on the original sentiment! Thank you for posting.

@mackayim2022 @AoC things are presented too complicated but things usually happen around us are simple. That simplicity is called fucking capitalism
@gpapadak @mackayim2022 @AoC
Feels to me this is oversimplifying a bit - there are >100 capitalist countries, but only one where a drug that's life-saving, simple to manufacture, in common use, and not patented, is prohibitively expensive

You can see why Conservatives hate AOC. She is so smart, eloquent, compassionate and standing up for Social Justice.
@mackayim2022 @AoC It is completely unethical what happens here. The unregulated market in the🇺🇸allows to rob people who have diabetes Type 1. Governments have to stop these unethical behavior. That is on reason why we have and need laws. No one should be allowed to take advantage of someone’s critical needs. A fair price is ok, anything else should be punished. There is no question that the price in the 🇺🇸 far to high in any international comparison.
@mackayim2022 AoC is always brilliant.
