Lots of discussion here of whether #Mastodon is fundamentally good or could become like the birdsite.

But the #fediverse isn’t one or the other. The network is whatever we make it.

@Sheril honestly I think it'll come down to who gets drawn into it and the evolution of onboarding to the site. People went to birdsite because that is where celebs, organizations, etc were communicating. It having a good easy to understand UI made it that much better. Mastodon has to get the first one still, while it has work to do on the second one imo.

Challenge is always managing these once they get past a certain size as the creator to consumer ratio tips

However if we never incentivize fame and “likes” etc then we can actually communicate hopefully

@Sheril The folks I can think of over there who would likely cause trouble here seem to imagine everyone on Mastodon as too (insert pejorative term for socially-minded progressive people) to bother with. In any case, the birdsite may well survive in some form, enough to prevent a mass exodus of potential troublemakers.
