Jo Wood@maarten It's weird, I was wondering the same thing (we seem to have set up our accounts within a day of each other in Jan 2018). No birdsite scares then that I recall and no vis/geo conference either.

Marian Dörk@maarten good q! i remember a spark of enthusiasm after @scott announced vis.social and invited folks to join. many signed up, but didn't have time to engage on both sides. thankfully @kristinHenry & @darth_mall have kept the light on :)
now we're in such a different situation. the new management over there is providing the arguments that social media should not be in the hands of few rich dudes and the fediverse demonstrates that an alternative is not just viable, but actually quite attractive
