A talking point right now among pundits is that Trump will run for reelection to inoculate himself from prosecution.

I don't believe Trump actually thinks he'll innoculate himself from prosecution by declaring himself a candidate.

I believe it's a way to keep himself at the center stage of the GOP by presenting himself as the target of left-wing radical hated.

It will be his rallying cry. A way to eclipse DeSantis. A way to keep the donations flowing in.

@Teri_Kanefield I believe he’s running solely so he can grift more money from his base- he didn’t actually like working at running the country and as a narcissist he totally believes he’s 100% innocent and will outsmart the legal system
@Teri_Kanefield
Unfamiliar with electoral campaign finance but one argument I came across was that a formal announcement meant that he wouldn't be able to embezzle the donations as freely as he does now.
Won't declaring formally limit his options?

@Teri_Kanefield there is a clear drive to establish “DeSantis is the new leader of the GOP” as the new narrative. Trump cannot allow that to happen for reasons political, financial, and narcissistic.

Of course, he could also be hoping for another 1/6 at the courtroom if he’s put on trial.

@Teri_Kanefield I agree that he’ll announce because his narcissism needs center stage, not because it’s a smart move. Because it isn’t.
@Teri_Kanefield yes, the donations are key. His candidacy was half grift half Russian special op from the day he descended that golden escalator….
@Teri_Kanefield And Maggie will cover it
@Teri_Kanefield Do you think he's angry because they convinced him to wait to announce and now he thinks THAT is why they lost all over? I don't think his narcissism will allow him to think any other way.
@Teri_Kanefield He can’t live without constant attention, and now that he’s tasted it on the big stage, in the public eye every second, he can’t go back to previous, non-politics levels.
@Teri_Kanefield definitely agree. The Reps signed up for this in 2016. It allowed them to steal a couple Supreme Court seats and dump billions of dollars onto their friends, but they will pay the price for at least a decade.
They’re stuck with him because there’s no pain-free way to get away, and they can’t accept the pain.
@Teri_Kanefield Without another candidacy: 1) his revenue stream dries up; 2) his minions will discover other red caps to wear; 3) his TruthSocial is no longer cross-posted by the mainstream media.
@Teri_Kanefield From past experience, anyone paying attention will know by now that Trump 2024 will be all about the grift, the cash, the con and the ingratiation. The media should be careful not to ignore this angle. Caveat emptor and voters too.
@Teri_Kanefield I agree. Trump doesn't fear being prosecuted. He fears being irrelevant and he will do whatever he has to do to keep money flowing his way.
@Teri_Kanefield Trump always get away with it

@adamtree Hi, Adam, can you please reread this FAQ page?

https://terikanefield.com/all-new-doj-investigation-faqs/

Are you aware that the Trump Org is currently on trial for fraud in New York? That's a NY matter, so it isn't in my fact page.

I had the fantasy that Mastodon would not descend into left-wing disinformation like Twitter.

Let me know what you think after you read it.

Thanks.
