This isn’t normal for November.

It’s the 12th of November and I’m outside DIYing in my T-shirt. Something is seriously wrong.

Infosec Exchange
@bloor Was nearly 16c here. I wished i had planned to go portable.
A lovely spring day.

@MM0INH @bloor I was on call and didn't get a single call. 13 minutes to the end of the 'shift', and the sun will set soon.

I could have done with some QRP Portable calmness...

@M0KHR @bloor Ding-dong- - 4pm is calling.
I have a couple of cans of stout and some pomegranate Turkish delight. I am as sorted as i can be in the circumstance.
Do that or similar!
@MM0INH @bloor Tidying up the study at the moment so that the Dell laptop I was using with the 847 would stop falling down very 15 seconds - and it's USB audio was broken and replaced with a spare. Luckily they are as cheap as chips thx to Ebay.

@M0KHR @bloor Hail ebay!

Here, just strung up some extra wire for the inverted L.
Now to see if the atu will give a match- and then to see if it radiates better while avoiding the local noise.
Wish me luck!

There are so many problems with my radios... The old C5800 won't even transmit at 1W now - even against a dummy load, simply goes into rapid reset cycle.

Reception isn't bad though.

@M0KHR thanks to M0BPQ I back on air. I think the last year finished off the wx sat rx, aluminium pole with bit of wire tacked to it vertical, and the 6/2/70 collinear. Radios thus far mostly behaving. Once it gets colder I think I'll have the KW201 RX on and negate the need for the heater!

I think I need to measure the voltage at the radio. The supply is at 13.8V, FT-847 is happy with it, but if the cabling / interface is bad...

It's a 30+y old radio and it will eventually die - and it had a hard life with me for the last 15 years or so, but it's one of my all-mode things I was planning to install in my car.

C5800's problem is def the power losses on the cable. Replaced it with a different cable and it TX's at 1W and 10W w/o a problem.

The radio has a 'feature', if you click the mic button twice it sends a tone for the repeater, even if it's on a simplex setup.

I cannot disable this.

The manual doesn't mention any way. I am even considering doing surgery since I will never use this on a repeater.

Of course, it being a 30+ year old radio, the switch on the mic is unreliable, and whatever I do, about 90% of the time it triggers the tone...
Now testing SSB capabilities near144.300 by hollering some CQs...
Signal isn't extremely stable but sounds OK.
@bloor I know, right? These are my nasturtiums, they should be long gone
@bloor Still not put the heating on :/
@bloor pretty unnatural I agree. Seem to recall junior school 85-87 when we had shorts used to be perishing in November. Now there is a light breeze and this glowing orb in the sky. You'd think that something was going on with the climate...
@bloor also couldn’t believe it when I went out for a walk earlier. If it stays mild it might we don’t get blackouts this winter though I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
