One positive aspect to Twitter's potential collapse is the widespread rejection of "hustle culture."

The blue-check ratrace, grasping for followers, gaming the algorithm — all of that can be replaced with something slower, more authentic, and ultimately more meaningful.

It will be interesting to see who makes the transition and who decides to remain in that old dynamic.

@davetroy I like this work group approach. Not echo chambers, just people with the same goals. Facebook’s dystopian because it’s local but easily influenced by bad actors. Twitter has been an information war zone a long time. Mastodon seems pretty cool so far. Thanks for letting me join your server!
@HedyBee absolutely. Glad you're here!
@davetroy Not me...don't chase followers...clicks...subscribes...likes...it's part of my not being part of the Human race thing going on.

@davetroy
One thing that eliminates part of this scenario is the lack of “Twitter follow rules”. You couldn’t follow many unless you had 5000 followers, and even then you had to stay within a ratio - which led to FB parties and the need to keep your numbers even.

From there, it did seem like in order to have a voice, you had to have a reasonable amount of followers.

I’m so happy none of that exists here! I can follow “at will”!

@davetroy @Lynda yet to my dismay I saw #FollowBackFriday make its appearance here already (I assume it hadn’t been a thing here before the Twitter folk poured in – I wouldn’t know, I’m one of them).
I see there is #UnfollowUnfriday, this sounds promising I need to check it out…

@BoogieMoscovitch @davetroy

That’s different. It was to help folks joining the #TwitterMigration over to Mastodon find their large and blue check favorites.

@davetroy once we all figure out how this all work.

By we I mean me the tech moron.

@davetroy I would have just hit a “like” button but have not figured that out yet. Also your words could be extended as commentary on how we have organized in much of society as a whole.
@davetroy I am not missing the toxicity of those hustle culture-driven platforms. I'm only on the bird app for my bts friends.
@davetroy But what is your favorite breakfast food? Kidding.
@davetroy @matthewcallaway I must admit that I am kinda looking forward to seeing Twitter and Instagram influencers come here and flail around, trying to get traction.
@ryanschultz @davetroy @matthewcallaway
Some of the people on Twitter are genuinely nice people and are already here, with traction. Would Instagram users like a text-heavy platform? That’s a whole other world!
@davetroy yep. No one is going to become a "celebrity influencer" on Mastodon and I'm totally fine with that
@davetroy Hello David…great surprise to see you here…always enjoyed your thoughts at the bird site…incisive and well constructed with ideas to ponder…yes, the peace, the ease and quiet of the Toot culture is something that may evolve to be quite good!…glad to see you here
@Geewhizpat looking forward. Whatever happens on the other site, it's smart to have multiple lifeboats, and I think this is a good one!
@davetroy “Where are they now?”
@davetroy whenever someone talks about hustle culture, I like to share this video that perfectly shows it. https://youtu.be/_o7qjN3KF8U
