Any suggestions for good #television series currently streaming in Australia? Asking for me (and a friend). I enjoy most kinds of things.
@alisoncroggon Deadwind on Netflix. 3 series of Finnish crime, a little extreme but very well thought through & executed. Bordertown, another Finnish crime show, is excellent also. I don't know why, but we really enjoy these - Trapped is also very good, set in Iceland
@Wikisaurus @alisoncroggon Trapped was the best thing I’ve seen on SBS OnDemand, where I’m quite the junkie.
@alisoncroggon 1899 is about to start on Netflix. I really enjoyed DAЯK, and it’s made by the same couple; Baran Bo Odar & Jantje Friese
@andrewfx51 Am v curious about that one
@andrewfx51 @alisoncroggon I’m super excited about this too! I loved ‘Dark’. Netty has some good German-language shows; I have been enjoying The Empress (about the Habsburg Empress Sisi) and Barbarians (about Germanians v. Romans in the Teutoberg Forest; has dialogue in Latin rather than, like, posh English accents)
@incrediblemelk @alisoncroggon
I enjoyed the fictionalised show about the origins of Wiesn, Oktoberfest: Beer & Blood, and watched a bit of Babylon Berlin but have been watching less TV of late
@alisoncroggon Inside Man on Netflix. 4 episodes. Really good! Nail baiting 😬
@alisoncroggon just got into S5 of the Crown, which so far is alright (as if they cast Dominic West as Charles!!); the second season of White Lotus is on, and so far it's great; Barry is phenomenal - a great blend of action and comedy; I've been enjoying Bling Empire - but it features some of the truly most horrendous people alive, but I can't get away from it
@callmesipo I just can’t do The Crown! Bling sounds like twitter, noted!
@alisoncroggon fair enough about the Crown! Bling Empire is a bit like they made a reality show with Crazy Rich Asians as the premise. It’s obscene, but irresistible
@alisoncroggon Aftertaste on iview. I’m also enjoying Whitstable Pearl on 9now (free but ads). If you haven’t already then Tge Split and Annika on iview.

@alisoncroggon there’s three versions of The Bridge on SBS OnDemand:

- Swedish/Danish
- USA/Mexico
- The Tunnel: UK/France

All excellent.

Also really enjoying Pagan Peak from Austria/Germany.

@pelicangut I think I’ve watched them all!

@alisoncroggon ha! We’ve only just started season 2 of Pagan Peak, so don’t tell me anything 😉

If you want some brain dead TV with massive plot holes and ridiculous story lines, you know, for when thinking is too much, there’s Crossing Lines. Like NCIS with more accents and better architecture.

For sci fi, Seven plus has the excellent Dark Matter

@alisoncroggon oh and Ten has Almost Human which is buddy cop with an android. Actually not bad!
@pelicangut @alisoncroggon Omg someone apart from me watched this??? I thought it was my shameful robot secret
@alisoncroggon on Disney Plus new series of Bob’s Burgers has started. New series of Fisk on ABC IView is best in the series so far. Also All Creatures Great and Small new series is consistent if you like that sort of thing.
@alisoncroggon our current watch is VEEP (yeah we’re a few years behind) and next will be season 2 of Resident Alien (on 9’s service).

@alisoncroggon is Reservation Dogs streaming of Disney+ down there? If so, do indeed check it out!

UPDATE: Rez Dogs is actually _NOT_ on Disney+ in the land of Oz, but on BiNGE and foxtel now: https://www.justwatch.com/au/tv-show/reservation-dogs

@alisoncroggon

#TrueColours on SBS;
anything #MysteryRoad on abc iview;
on Netflix #Bridgerton; #Ozark; are both genius

for pure soap opera (but set in a US mega-church) #Greenleaf on Netflix

@alisoncroggon I’m watching The English on Amazon - fairly heavy, Peaky Blinders meets the Wild West, but we’ll done….
@alisoncroggon Andor. Best thing on TV at the moment (almost in spite of being a Star Wars show).
@alisoncroggon The Peripheral on Amazon. Not as impenetrable as the book by William Gibson
@alisoncroggon it's a kids thing, but I actually am enjoying the slightly weird humour of Trash Truck on Netflix. The baby loves it, but I also find it quite fun to watch

@alisoncroggon A lot of people seem to have slept on The Resort (Stan) which has White Lotus vibes but also elements of magic and true crime.

I’ve been enjoying The Patient (Disney+) with Steve Carell as a therapist. I find his ‘therapist voice’ intensely soothing.

Have you seen ‘Beforeigners’ (SBS)? I love these genre mashups and this is a Norwegian timeslip crime procedural

@alisoncroggon I just remembered The Lazarus Project (Stan) about a spy agency that can reset time to prevent global annihilation. And if you haven’t seen the terrific ‘Slow Horses’ (Apple TV+) it might be worth catching up on s01 because s02 is coming in December
@incrediblemelk Thanks Mel - the only oen I've seen of those is Slow Horses, which I loved...
@alisoncroggon I’m late to the party but I’ve been watching Dark from 2017 and enjoying it.
@alisoncroggon Worth giving The Peripheral a look on Prime — based on a really good book by William Gibson.
@engagedpractx Just watched the first episode, it looks really promising
@alisoncroggon Oh great! It comes with a TW for disturbing violence but it's plot-relevant, unlike all the SA on the GoT shows...
@alisoncroggon omg, I just stumbled onto Fisk on iView the other day #doyourselfafavour
